Péter Szőr was a Hungarian computer virus and security researcher, entrepreneur and author.
Early Life and Education
Péter Szőr was born on 17 July 1970 in Balatonfüred, Veszprém County, Hungary. He developed an interest in computer viruses in 1990, a pursuit that would define his professional life. He went on to earn a degree from the University of Pannonia.
Career
Szőr established himself as a prominent researcher in the field of computer virus analysis and security. Over the course of his career, he authored several books focused on virus-related topics, which contributed to his reputation as a knowledgeable and respected technical authority in the cybersecurity community. From 2011 until his death, he worked at McAfee, where he was engaged in developing new solutions aimed at stopping computer viruses.
Legacy
Péter Szőr died on 12 November 2013 at the age of 43. In recognition of his contributions to technical security research, Virus Bulletin introduced the Péter Szőr Award in May 2014. The award is presented annually to honor the best piece of technical security research completed in a given year, ensuring that his name remains associated with the highest standards of the discipline.
