Early Life and Education
Eric Vanderburg developed an interest in technology from an early age, teaching himself programming basics by reading through computer manuals. In the early 1990s, he spent time with hackers and what he described as "Internet deviants," an experience that helped shape his eventual focus on cybersecurity. He attended Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Technology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He also pursued doctoral studies in information assurance.
Career
Vanderburg's professional career in cybersecurity began taking shape in the late 1990s, with a focus on security within the business world. In 1997, he founded Independent Systems Consulting, an IT consulting firm that he operated for nearly a decade. In 2006, he joined Jurinnov, where he directed teams focused on IT, digital forensics, and cybersecurity consulting. In 2009, he built a network operations center at Jurinnov's headquarters to monitor data center operations and perform transaction monitoring of key business and client systems.
When TCDI acquired Jurinnov in 2016, Vanderburg became Vice President of Cybersecurity at TCDI, the role he continues to hold. He also serves as a board member of the TechMin Network.
Throughout his career, Vanderburg has collaborated with a range of technology companies. He was involved with Hitachi Data Systems in testing their Essential NAS product, which he compared to the NetApp FAS3000 NAS. He partnered with Lateral Data in using their Viewpoint eDiscovery tool for large-scale litigation document review, and worked with Venio on their litigation review tool with early case assessment (ECA) capabilities. He has also worked with companies including Dell, Carbonite, BitDefender, Microsoft, and AT&T.
Vanderburg has served as an expert witness in legal cases involving digital preservation, electronic communication, access control, confidential information disclosure, database management systems, and directory services.

He taught courses in security, database management systems, and computer networking at Remington College's Cleveland-West campus, where he also served as chair of the Computer Networking Technology program. He served as an adjunct instructor in the Computer Information Systems department at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio, and delivered web-based professional development courses for eForensics Magazine.
He delivered commencement speeches at the Vatterott College Cleveland campus in 2010 and at Remington College Cleveland-West campus's final graduation ceremony in 2013.
