Eugene Schultz was born on September 10, 1946, in Chicago, to E. Eugene Sr. and Elizabeth Schultz. He completed his bachelor's degree from UCLA before going on to earn both his MS and PhD in cognitive sciences from Purdue University.

Career

Schultz built a career that bridged government service, private industry, and academic research in the field of computer security. One of his most significant contributions was founding the U.S. Department of Energy's Computer Incident Advisory Capability (CIAC), an early and influential organization dedicated to responding to computer security incidents. He managed CIAC for several years, helping to establish foundational practices in the emerging discipline of incident response.

In the private sector, Schultz served as chief technology officer at Emagined Security, where he continued to apply his expertise to organizational cybersecurity challenges. He was also an adjunct professor at several universities, contributing to the education of the next generation of security professionals.
