Donald Stewart McFarlane is a British-American politician and cybersecurity consultant. He serves as a Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from the Grafton 18th district. The district represents the towns of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, Canaan, Dorchester, Enfield, Grafton, Groton, Hebron, and Orange. McFarlane is a member of the planning board and budgeting committee for the town of Orange, where he has lived since 2008.

Early Life and Education

Donald Stewart McFarlane was raised in both the United Kingdom and the United States. He holds a degree in electrical engineering. After completing his studies and serving in the military, he became a permanent resident of the United States in 1995 and subsequently became an American citizen in 2002.

Cybersecurity Career

McFarlane built a career in information security within the financial services sector. He served as Business Information Security Officer (BISO) at Merrill Lynch, and later held Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) roles at American International Group Investments and Bluestone Capital Partners. He is the owner of McFarlane Associates, LLC, a consultancy, and sits on the advisory board of Xcape Inc., a red-team security vendor. McFarlane has contributed as a speaker and participant at numerous hacker conferences throughout his career.

Political Career

McFarlane has lived in the town of Orange, New Hampshire since 2008, where he is a member of the local planning board and budgeting committee. He first sought elected office in 2022, running as a Republican for the Grafton 9th district in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He won the Republican primary but lost the general election to Corinne Morse. In November 2024, he successfully won election to the Grafton 18th district, defeating Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban. The district encompasses the towns of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, Canaan, Dorchester, Enfield, Grafton, Groton, Hebron, and Orange.

McFarlane describes his political philosophy as supporting a "constitutional, limited government" and is an advocate of school choice.

Personal Life

McFarlane and his wife Karen married in 2012. They have one son and reside in Orange, New Hampshire.
